Mounted on a wonderfully decorative plaque, this "Fruits of the Hunt" themed hand carved scene is an amazing example of 19th century Swiss Black Forest carving and why we so love them still, today. Exceptional carving on that hare, the gun and powder flask and basket. Napoleon III or Victorian era, there's a bit of almost an Eastlake feel to the unusual shaped and beveled plaque, perhaps someone's Grand Tour souvenir.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. One flaw: you don't notice it at first, but one foot of the rabbit has been lost to the age, but overall, this one is just in superb condition. A striker pad below the carved full-relief sculpture. The match holder would be that beautiful basket. Overall, 11" long.
