Very sweet! VERY old! This gentleman's portrait would have been painted in the mid-1700s, and the silver locket-type pendant frame is a French gem, set with 30 early French paste stones that mimic diamonds. The bezel surrounding aperture is 18k gold (acid tested). The bezel/portrait lifts out of the outer silver recess and is snug in fit. A bale up top so you can wear as a pendant, or hang. Measurements noted on the image, but it's 1.75" in height plus bale.
Very good to excellent for age and type. Purchased in France, it's part of my own collection (being disbursed). The era's jewelry advancement by the French included layering metals, and pronged addition of diamonds or faux diamonds (in this case), the famed "French paste gems". A beautiful little thing, nicely preserved and with the original cover glass fully intact. No signature. No ID.
