Artist signed oil painting on stretched canvas, c. 1880-1900 estimate, the artist is "Malosik", continental artist we have not researched, but presents here as a talented impressionist. The brush strokes are loose and thick, and coalesce to the definitely feel of a large group of chickens and a rooster picking through the stray inside an old barn. Fabulous palette for subject, and while it's hard to get a good image with my photo lighting, shown under a painting light, it will thrill your dining room or kitchen walls. The frame is a beauty, elegant burl wood framed in by blackened outer frame and an inner gold raised mat. The frame is large: 35 3/8" x 30 5/8" and 1 1/4" in depth. The oil painting on its original wood stretcher frame is 28 3/8" x 23 3/4".
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a few small nicks to the outer black of the frame could use a touchup (your choice), but has a definite appeal as it stands. I like some age showing. No breaks to frame, no restorations or holes, tears to the old canvas and really no chips to the oil paint which is often rather thick in this impressionist manner oil painting. High appeal!
