Artist: G. Goubert, French, pastel 'painting' dated c.1830.
Found in France, this is a charming pastel (chalk) portrait of a young boy and his tiny dog who looks up at him adoringly. It's a very appealing work of art, and still in original frame, Charles X era and date. I have been unable to find this artist by cursory search, and suspect a family member or artist in employ to do portraits. Nicely matted and awaits glass at its next home (we do not want to replace glass ahead of shipment). Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, nicely preserved in original 1830 frame with signs of age to the frame. The pastel is well-preserved as you can see, and has an original paper mat which has some loss of surface color to one corner. With a pastel this old, it's amazing it has lost so little chalk. It feels to me some is lost at his forehead, but if so, it's very little. The charming folk-like portrait of this boy and his dog, almost 200 years protected with its original glass but will need a replacement glass at its next home. The other glass broke in shipment here from France, sadly. It's protected meanwhile but rather than replace the glass here and take a chance of shipment losses, it will be shipped without cover glass.
