The final image in our photos is of an 18th century pair of French chairs with hand embroidered needlepoint and petit point upholstery panels very like our 2 large salvage panels, and shows how they would have been in their original state. These clean and superb panels we're offering are perfect to make up into a pair of opulently down-filled and lush-fringed decorator pillows, throw pillows, or could certainly become chair seat covers if your measurements work. They are entirely hand worked in the mid-1700s, silk and wool yarns, and the 2 are each supple, without visible aging to yarns or warp/canvas and some of the very best I've found in decades of collecting fragments. Made up into pillows, these fetch up to $5000 for a pair. The panels need only your creative talent and some heavy silk or silk velvet back-fabric, some opulent passementerie tassels or fringe, and a little time. A down-filled pillow insert is easy to locate to finish. Full large measurements are noted on each of the full panel photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, only very rarely do I find magnificent panels of this century in such fine condition. Obviously were away from light, not much sat upon as chairs, and survive without evidence of loss or even fading (note the colors on backside are very slightly more vibrant than the top or face colors). I find no tears nor loosened areas on the canvas, making them perfect for pillow top use. I can locate one very tiny spot of a few stitches gone, which can be easily filled in with several needlepoint stitches in a matching yarn - no more than 3-4 stitches in 2 spots. Remarkably unscathed by time. Obviously from a well-preserved elegant room in some chateau or palace. My intention was to make them up, and perhaps I still might. But I have so many, perhaps you will get after it long before I have the time. Shown draped over some of my own pillows on my sofa to help you judge size. They stand as one of a kind works of art, in tapestry.
