You're going to find this work of sculpture in our Black Forest category, but it is not Black Forest. Or if it is, it departs from the usual genre. More the work we see from Master carvers in France, Italy, even England (Think Grinling Gibbons) and Netherlands during the 19th century and well before, it is a panel of flowers so delicately carved, they seem alive. None finer. I found it in France. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Excellent condition for age and type. The flower petals so impossible delicate and yet I don't see chips. A fine deep bas relief that seems even deeper dimensional than it is. The outer rim of the plaque has a beveled face. Begs to be made into the top of a most elegant jewelry box, or just hung to enjoy the art of it.
