Important 18th century portrait miniature by very well-listed French artist, Marie-Adélaïde Duvieux , (born Landragin (22 April 1761, Paris - 14 January 1799, Paris) was a French miniaturist painter, active in the 1790s. She participated in several Shows and Parisian art exhibitions between 1791 and 1798. Her remaining works in miniature are in major collections, to include the Musee du Louvre, Paris, and her self portrait is in the collection of The National Museum, Palaces of Versailles.  (see reference photos). This original and one of a kind portrait, as with many of this artist's works, shows people during and just after the French Revolution, the bulk of her work done in the 1790s and from Paris. The painting we present to you is exquisite, with the emotional feel of a woman whose letter has given her sad news. Wishing the locket-like 3" diameter frame remains locks of the woman's hair. While the mount has a look of karat gold, though interestingly, more than one color. I will test it and add to our listing. The value of this particular artist carries the piece.  The cover glass on front and back are original, and as you can see, the one from back side has been broken and at some point has been taped to remain together and with the piece.  RARE magnificent painting, superb artist.

Very good to excellent condition but for the broken cover glass on the back side which would have given view of the dark brunette hair kept within, the occasional gray among them. The painting is superb, excellent condition and without flaws to note. All measurements are noted on the photos.  Can be hung or meant to be worn as a pendant, locket, on gold chain or perhaps black ribbon in mourning, originally.
