Missing its lift-out tray which would have been fitted and filled with luxurious sewing implements in either mother of pearl or perhaps 18k gold, a' la Palais Royal, earliest 1800s, but it's a fabulous coffret, box, casket and deserves a whole other life as a jewelry box, or perhaps your project to find a replacement tray and tools that will be lovely in it. The old mirror in the lid and the chenille trim are each original, as is papered interior lining. The box is solid lemonwood, contrasted with darker wood edging and base, bun feet. Decorative stain painting on that serpentine lid draws the eye. Such a pretty thing! We're listing several of these empty boxes from the same era (sold separately) that look so pretty clustered together (see our final photo). You might want to own them all.

Very good condition for age and type. The old wood is superb, and no chips to note, no cracks. A superb bit of cabinetmaker's artistry in the form. And more than 200 years since made, it has lost nothing more than its ring handle up top center (mount remains) and the escutcheon which was likely mother of pearl. As noted the interior's original lift-out tray is also gone from this box. Measurements are noted directly on the photos. This one is 7.5" long.
