A traveler's sewing and vanity case, missing just the scissors after these 170 or so years since some Grand Tour traveler first bought it for her trip. The original 6 carved mother of pearl handled tools still inside, along with a wonderful pocket knife (sadly, blade broken), and retractible silver pencil, thimble. Just the 2 scissors gone missing from the old claret red silk velvet lined interior. The burled wood is quite magnificent, and highlighted with a cartouche and side corner strapping to ornament it, remains in superb display or use condition. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, as noted above the 2 sets of scissors have been lost to time, as has half of the blade on the folding pocket knife. All of the mother of pearl handles are without loss or damage, making the pieces still just thrill. Button hook, tweezers, nail file, stiletto and crochet hook, and a cork screw plus the pencil (silver) and thimble and pocket knife are original to the set/etui. Hinge and clasp working perfectly and the box has no warp to it at all. Old original silk velvet shows age, of course, and has lost some of the nap which is typical.
