An interesting and special item, we've learned the silversmith for this one is Arthur Pittar, Lattey & Co., Calcutta, India; 1835-1842. Colonial India.  I had not thought of the English marks as related to the British colonies. Fabulous antique English hallmarked sterling silver 4 1/8" travel sewing and/or vanity etui or necessaire, ornate engraved or machined decoration with crown topped monogram and full of contents including two pearl handled knives, scissors, thimble and more!  The case itself bears hallmarks similar to those of England or the UK through they're not quite the norm. As noted, we've learned that the silversmith mark for "AP L&Co" is that of Arthur Pittar, Lattey & Co., Calcutta, India; 1835-1842. There with a lion passant but I don't recognize the other markings.  One mother of pearl handled knife has a sterling silver blade with hallmarks and those appear to be Scottish in origins which would fall und there UK marking regime. Any silver experts out there with any help in identifying these would be highly appreciated, thanks!  A beautiful old piece in any event, the case likely dates to the early 1800s and, if you look very closely at the scrolling decoration, you'll see small figures including what looks like lions or tigers and prey.  Fabulous!  The interior fitted in royal blue velvet and holds several pieces though not all are original, they include two pearl handled knives, two small steel scissors, tweezer with scoop end and a continental silver thimble.  A wonderful addition for the sewing etui collectors and enthusiasts, quite unique and rare!

Very good condition.  A small dimple or two to the case, the most visible on the upper corner of the back side.  The interior lip of the case originally with a vermeil or gold plating that's quite worn now.  As noted, some of the tools are not original, some questionable.  See pictures for all measurements.
