Large at 10" long and 5" wide, this would have been someone's cherished Grand Tour souvenir of a visit to Paris. Beautifully kept, it is a vanity stand with 2 large blue opaline scent bottles, each with eglomise (back-painted glass) images of Paris monuments, and a jewelry tray and stand. a Watch hook there to the front of the mother of pearl 'vide poche' (literally: empty pocket), and a beautiful ormolu cast framework encircling and rising from the old alabaster base. Those 2 opaline bottles are large at nearly 4" tall and nearly 3" in diameter - it's an impressively sized old beauty. Quite usual for these to have numerous flaws, but I see very few to report on this one. Full measurements are accurately noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I find a single flaw, shown in detail in our photos: there has been a chip at some point in one interior neck which has been repaired (white), though there are no cracks or anything associated with it showing on the body of the bottle - you must open hinged lid, remove stopper to see it. There is a tiny tip to one of the hinged caps, as well. Also noted on our photos for your review. No loss or chips to the mother of pearl 'egg' or half-shell, and no chips or breaks to the old alabaster. I can see a natural line in the old stone, but it is not a break. I have had the entire alabaster plaque out of its mount just to be certain. Not a break. I think our photos show it from all angles, but you have to see it in person to fully appreciate its size and beauty. Fabulous, and honors Napoleon and Louis XIV monuments you've seen there as you approach the Louvre, repeated clearly on each cap. Those little paintings are 1" in diameter. My pic of Louis XIV statue is slightly blurry - sorry - the painting is not at all. Napoleon III era or slightly before, c.1840-70.
