Elegant French Sterling silver etui mounted with 5 cabochons of goldstone, or aventurine with sparkled gold - natural stone, and no damage to any. A late 1700s vest 'necessaire' of extraordinary value complete with eating utensils, scissors, toothpick and ear wax spoon, stiletto, as well as a sharp knife and a corkscrew. All fittings are full but the long narrow one into which a thin wafer would have resided to be used as a note pad. Remarkably well preserved for age. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, not a single nip nor chip nor flaw to the 5 semi-precious stones which decorate the exterior, and no dents or losses to the etui. Amazing to find it so complete, you can view the photos to see that all pieces are unbroken, and the rare handle remains with the set. The scissors remain sharp, as does the knife blade, though you can see the old steel has darkened slightly. Medicine spoon and tongue scraper, handle for the knife and a hinged notepad. No rust. Hinge and pushbutton clasp each remain in excellent condition, as well. Exceptional museum quality piece.
