Charming antique Victorian or Napoleon III era French 11.5" salad serving implement pair with ornate sterling silver stems and fabulous carved genuine antler handles with a Black Forest style hunt theme bearded gent and dog! Aren't these great! I'm not sure if I'd use them but what marvelous decorative accents in a Black Forest or Country French decor. The handles are genuine deer antlers and the ends of each has a wonderfully carved figural bust, one of the bearded man and the other a dog. I'm not seeing any hallmarks on the silver but they're most likely either .800 or sterling (it's not uncommon to have smaller silver pieces bearing no hallmarks, especially if they were commissioned pieces). Lovely!
Good to very good condition. It appears that one of the dog's tiny eye inserts is missing but no other damage to the handles that I can see. The bowl of the spoon is relatively delicate with a crack where the bowl meets the neck. It could likely be glued/reinforced for use but we're leaving it as it came to us from France. Some slight darkening to the fork tines & spoon bowl. See pictures for measurements.
