Georgian mourning brooch, a rare form we just never find, elegant seed pearls set into 18k gold, a rock crystal cover 'glass', and you see a braid/plaiting of hair still within. We have many many of these, made later, variations and different gold content, but this is one of my all-time favorites, and earlier than most. Completely intact, it really has no flaws to note; has been so well treasured.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The rock crystal cover is thick, undamaged, and still very clear - not as much surface abrasions as some this early. Note the work, each seed pears is prong-set. Entirely hand crafted in 18k gold. I feel uncertain if the hinged pin may have been re-made. Look it over. Best of the best. Measurements noted on the photos.
