Begs to show up on set of Gilded Age, or a period Victorian to Edwardian movie, doesn't it! Found in France, and with the leather embossment we later realize is that of the Epi line Louis Vuitton used to the max, this is a Victorian era cash box, or jewelry box. compartments for gold and silver, and a pocketed lid for 'notes' which would be bank notes used prior to paper money. Likely kept in a safe, one can only dream of the stories it could tell of its owner - who, what industry or luxurious title. A functional bank for home or business. It's well-preserved for its advanced age, and measurements are noted on our photos: 6" x 4 3/8" and 3" tall when closed. It has a working lock but we do not have the original key at listing time.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the leather is well preserved; a rub to corners which you might wish to touch up with a bit of leather dye, but no rips or tears, not much sign of any deterioration. The interior shows well, a nod to the small tear in the green moire silk sleeve, visible in our photos for your inspection.
