Wonderful antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved double inkwell or writer’s stand with a fabulous large bird figure, complete with black metal or glass bead eyes, perched over a hollowed log pen holder, two lobed glass inkwells with original foliate carved wood caps and foliate accents throughout including large pierced or reticulated oak leaves! Relatively small in size but overflowing with hand sculpted visual & decorative appeal! I’m not seeing any acorns but oak leaves & acorns are always a popular accent on these delightful old Black Forest treasures. The inkwells held securely in the carved front of the base, a convex portion of a hollowed out log just behind them serves as the pen or quill holder tray and the bird is perched, wings spread, just behind and above that. A wonderful desk or writing table top decorative accent, don't miss it. We also have a large collection of rare and superb old Black Forest works so, be sure to browse and enjoy some while you’re with us. Thanks!

Very good condition, age & materials considered. There are a few small chips to leaf tips and the wings, the most notable to the tail feathers of the bird figure (as shown in the images). One of the wood inkwell caps has an old split/break through it that has been re-glued and, with the other line carvings, is well hidden. A few tiny nips to the inkwells but no larger chips, no cracks, etc. See pictures for all measurements.
