Fabulous huge 15" tall 19th century Staffordshire spill vase, English traditional charming pottery so popular for your English Manor house decor. The statue is in excellent unbroken and in nearly undamaged condition, is 9.5" wide and a maximum 4" depth front to back. Hand painted pottery. A "spill", for anyone who doesn't recognize that term, was the long rolled up paper 'wand' that was used in the 19th century to start fires in fireplace or wood stove. The vases like these were mantel vases and at the ready, holding the long rolled paper tubes.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No chips, cracks or repairs that I can see though there is some crazing visible. There is also a base edge mark near front right side. A lovely old one, unique with the "Robin Hood" theme and center quintessential Staffordshire spaniel. Charming. The piece weighs 5 lbs, 8 oz.
