Charming old things, these salt cabinets! Prior to refrigeration, preserving food, meat, fish, involved a lot of salt. Every home had a salt bin. The French, as with so many things of necessity, elevated the aesthetic of the kitchen salt box and this is a wonderful 19th century "reproduction" of those from a century earlier. Still, itself, an antique, it's got all the appeal and decorative impact of the earliest ones but not the price.  I'd put this one about c.1850-1900, well into antique status on its own account. The bin up top would hold salt and the drawer would have packets of various spices. Measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout. These are fabulous for kitchen decor, on bar or countertop or hung or atop a bracket shelf. We can never keep these in stock and don't find them often. The carved legs on this one and carved Country French motifs throughout put it among my favorites.  You might find this in our Black Forest category, too, only because it is hand carved wood and that's where people look for same, but it is French carved.
