Elegant antique French Napoleon III to Belle Epoque era Empire or Louis XVI style 24.5" tall wall shelf console with kingwood veneers, figural gilt ormolu accenting and Sevres style hand painted floral medallion on oval porcelain plaque! The book matched kingwood veneers as elegant as can be, the grain pattern giving it a marquetry look like some of the opulent table boxes we've had over the years. Likely created by a prominent French ebaniste that also dabbled in boxes and cabinetry though this one bears no makers marks. Not overly large but a beautiful wall hanging decorative piece. Perfect with a small dish of fresh flowers or a few treasured small decorative objects on display. Unique and definitely an eye-catcher! Oh, I nearly forgot the delightful little figural representation just below the shelf surface, a small pastoral style appliqué of a woman and lamb, lovely!
Very good condition. No warping to the wood panels, no loss of the kingwood veneer but the finish is a bit crackled. No losses to the gilt ormolu accenting, no cracks or damage to the porcelain plaque. There is some discoloration to the back though I'm not quite sure of the cause. See pictures for all measurements.
