Another fabulous hand carved cabinetry or paneling inset, 25" tall and 15 1/8" wide, with a board or plaque backing that is 3/8" in depth and a deep bas relief carved figure of a Griffen, gryphon, winged beast whose had extends that depth to 2 1/2". Fabulous wings and a tail that evolves into what seems like foliage. Gothic, neoclassical, fabulous! Incorporate it into your own paneling or cabinetry, or into a door to a recessed cabinet or wine storage into a wall. Get creative. These never last long in our shop! Just recently in from France.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a 19th century carved inset panel taken either from cabinetry or from a paneled den or room, library. There is one hairline I can report, likely a slight split where boards were joined, and you see it at the top of the panel, extending about 2 1/2" downward, visible on both front and back (see photos for detail). I see no other flaws to report.
