Fine antique French J.M. Paillard marked watercolor paints set, an artist's travel box with hand painted birds & flowers on top, original label and a host of watercolor paints and supplies inside! One of several old French artist boxes that we're adding this week. Several Bourgeois Aine sets, some with unique boxes, some sets for children. This one with quite a few original watercolor cates, porcelain mixing palettes, crayons and more. The label inside the lid all in French but describes some the contents and designates Paillard as the maker. The company was founded in Paris in 1788. In October of 1881 Vincent Van Gogh mentioned in a letter to his brother Theo that he had received a box of J-M. Paillard paints and was exited to make a painting with them. A fine set, whether it's the antique French paints or a lovely little decorative accent that you're looking for.
Very good condition, age considered. As you can see in the images, the box itself is in fine shape but missing the right side clasp. Most of the watercolor cakes have been used to some extent, some more than others but you can still make out the writing on most. The right side porcelain mixing dish has a repaired break. See picture for all measurements.
