Sweet little c.1840-60 Palais Royal souvenir mother of pearl shell 'egg' casket, carriage pulled by 2 horses is a trinket jewelry box, or thimble box, perhaps a box for a rosary at origin, these miniature carriages are thrilling to find in such fine condition (unbroken). This one has stationary wheels rather than turning wheels which some do have. Hinge working fine, just a charming double harness steed-pulled carriage. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Neither half of the 'egg' of mother of pearl has any breaks. There is a natural materials small ridge on the bottom half, it is not a flaw. Pressed brass 3-D horses and wheels, the entire framework is sturdy and unbroken. Typical of these in their original state would have included a plinth or stand of alabaster, but those plinths very often do not survive. Alabaster is a soft stone, prone to breakage. Rare to find the old ones complete and not damaged. This one is trinket or thimble-holder size. Collect a table full!
