Fine antique French Napoleon III era carved chalk sculptural plaque, a wonderful religious icon with what appears to be Saint Anthony holding the baby Jesus and a cherub or putti at his side, all in deep bas relief and displayed in the original ebonized wood frame with deep bombe or convex glass! One of the items that we always try to have 'in stock' though it appears that this is the only one I have ready to list. This one is truly fine in detail and condition! The oval bombe style ebonized or jet black finished wood frame is 6" x 5.25" and the chalk plaque is 3 3/4" x 3". No engraving that I can see but they are usually marked 'Depose', and possibly signed, along the lower edge of the carved plaque. Fabulous figures and a truly wonderful old decorative and/or devotional piece! 

Very good condition. A few small areas on the black frame where the brown wood beneath is showing but no age cracking or other damage. No breaks to the plaque, the original deeply convex glass is intact. There is no backing and the reverse side of the chalk plaque is visible.
