Beautiful with the chevron patterning in the parquet work on this fine Napoleon III (c.1850-70) kingwood glove box. This size and shape were specifically made to hold pairs of gloves, though perfect now for gentleman's jewelry or even a document box (marriage, wedding, legal or your family's old letters). The canted corners and the polished brass pencil edging add interest and compliment to the patterning of the kingwood. This one has the original lock and its working original key, which is more and more rare to find.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Photos show all sides, no chips or losses to the veneers and all stringing still tightly in place. This has been a fine quality maker, though the lock plate has no engraving. Unlined hardwood interior gives it a masculine feel. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
