Beautiful c.1860s Carte-de-visite photo frame from France, cutaway outer ornament in heavy brass alloy, gold look. It's an easy-to-open sliding back so putting a photo in is simple. Made specifically for the 1st form of paper photos, the frame is to be used without glass. A sturdy easel stand or option to use as a wall frame with the hanging loop still in place. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good condition for age and type, no breaks and is complete. This one was not made for a cover glass, and so plan on your mat finish photo to look perfect. It is not thick enough in the space to have allowed for glass. A lot of hand-worked engraving and cutaway that would have been by a foot-powered jigsaw. Love this little frame! Put a tabletop group together. If you're unsure of which to pair with this one, ask us for help.
