French artist signed: Victor Meuret, dated 1825
Large for a portrait miniature, the superb painting is accomplished on parchment and is signed by the artist as well as dated on the painting (near her shoulder) and also information beyond that is included on a written label beneath the easel back frame. I've done a cursory search for this artist and also this young woman, and can see it's going to take more research I'm unprepared to do at this point and so will leave to her next owner. Large, as noted, the full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the painting is superb and shows no flaw nor loss or damage. A stylish young woman of her time, elaborate hair and off-shoulder gown of highest fashion c.1825-30. The frame into which the bright brass (and likely gold plate) mat rests in a large wood board with a veneer. On one corner, a chip to the veneer (upper left). A hairline visible in our photos indicated another place where the old hardwood veneer had lifted and we'll re-glue both those places to avoid any further loss. I have never removed the back from this frame, anchored as it is by tiny nails. Perhaps you will find more information within, should your curiosity carry you there. There is also a hanging loop for wall display.
