A very well ornamented stationery or notes/envelopes chest, French origin, leather clad and beautifully crafted with diamonds and strapping like an old trunk. Brass edging mounts and studs add to the feel of it being a travel trunk, don't they. I know this is a stationery box, sectioned inside for notes and all, but wouldnât it just be fabulous as a trunk for your Bru or other antique doll! The sections lift right out, are just cut card. The interior can be wide open and packed with your dollâs best hats, or travelerâs vanity things, shoes. Size is perfect, and it's SO gorgeous!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The strappings are without much loss or hairlines, but a little to show for it's very advanced age. Iâd date this one c.1850s, give or take 10 years. Interior lid is lined in original royal blue silk moire, 2 small dots of something sticking to it (view images) but no stains nor tears. An old velveted bevel fitting inside has lost some nap, and the 2 card inserts are replacements. Leather is beautifully preserved, and overall the look is superb. No missing brass cabochon studs, either. Varied in size, they add accent and interest. There is a working lock on this one but we donât have the original key and have not found one of our spares to fit it just yet. If we do, we'll annotate our listing and up our price a bit. The box is almost 6 inches long. Overall measurements are 4 1/4" tall, 3 3/4" wide and 5 5/8" long.
