Artist signature on this one, but difficult to read, and not likely a listed artist. You know the French are all "le artiste", and most tried their hand at still life painting some to finer result than others. This lovely 19th century painting is nicely composed, and in a restful lovely palette. The frame contains it to elegant effect, and is in remarkably nice condition for age. The painting is done on a heavy card, not wood board, but solid and no damage as a result. A bedside table still life 15 3/4" x 12 3/4" and within an opulent frame that is 21 5/8" x 18 3/4" and extends 3 2/8" in depth.
Very good to excellent for age and type. As noted, oil painting on heavy card panel, no issue of holes in canvas nor of stretching issues. Frame is lovely, very little loss to the gilt lesson appliqués on the old wood frame. Ready to hang. Kind of in love with this one. I can't read that signature, but frame and all suggest it's c.1860-90s. Purchased in France. Clean, no odors, ready to hang.
