Just a little bauble from a group of items I purchased in order to get the red coral Napoleon III tiara in the batch, this is a large hair ornament from same estate. Not so valuable, it was too pretty to not pass it along. Just the cabochons of turquoise or perhaps blue opaline are valuable as replacements on more pricey antiques. I should keep it for that, but look at it - it's so pretty. The comb in not real shell. Late 1880s-1900 would be my guess. Very nicely made with set 'stones' and twist brass mount. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Just ornamental - it is faux for sure. Half-round cabochons are fabulous, however, and it's without damage, cleaned and ready to wear. I wish I had long thick hair to pull up into a chignon or French twist and anchor it with this. You?
