She's so interesting! Set outdoors, with all the lushness of a Mona Lisa, this little painting astounds at the fine detail and intricate landscape. The artist was as interested in her hat, eyes, and striped sleeves as in the foliage. All together, with a consideration that her face is only 1/2" in height, a bit of a masterpiece. In its time, this artist must have been in demand, though we have no signature. Consider, if you will, that I've enlarged that 1/2" face to fill your screen and it's still a fine portrait. The frame is just 2" in diameter. That's an amazing miniature!
Very good to excellent condition. I'm unsure if this is a French or perhaps a Prussian woman. The Prussian/Russian or Germanic 1700s portraits I have had all seem to be in a frame with a 1/16" space around the miniature. This one has that, too. I found her in France, however, disbursed from someone's collection there. The fashion is also interesting. A little gem of a painting, worthy of museum collections.
