Oh, I wish this were a pair rather than a single candlestick. It is charming! The carvings with hens, rooster, chickens always sell so fast, Country French homes welcoming them. I'm sure this one will be no different. The recess carved into the rising fronds is made specifically to hold a candle rather than a glass epergne or vase, and is round and blunt, just deep enough to insert a candle with sturdiness. I've shown it thus.
Very good condition for age and type. Photos show it from all vies, and you'll note a couple of chips to tips of fronds. But the chicken, be it rooster or hen, is just fine. A wide try-lobed base makes it a study piece, as well. Could certainly be fitted with small lamp apparatus, and would be darling as a countertop night light in a Country French kitchen, used in that way. It is 7 1/4" tall overall and base is 5" from leafy bun-footed lobes on a triangular measurement.
