Fabulous antique Napoleon III or Victorian era hand carved 26.5" furniture or architectural cornice pair, an ornate reticulated tableau on each with canted sides, scrolling tendrils & foliage and Classical angel, cherub or putti figural busts! Taken from the top of larger carved pieces of furniture, these old 'salvaged' pieces were generally the more ornate parts of the pieces and make wonderful decorative accents as they are. Or, turn them into part of your custom cabinetry, fireplace mantel, bar or wouldn't they look great mounted over an entry doorway. Carved from what looks like solid old growth European oak and the size is nearly as impressive as the carving. Fabulous visual appeal no matter how you end up using or displaying them!
Very good to excellent condition. No warping or breaks to the reticulated figural portions or canted 'overhang' sides. There are a few small chips that look like they're a result of old wood worm but nothing active. There has been some light wood glue restoration to the right side piece's angled portion but it's only visible from the back. The left side piece also has some faint glue visible where the figural bust portion has been reaffixed (the depth of the carving a result of layers and the top layer re-glued there). They are 12" at the tallest points. The carvings on the insides are 9 1/8" at the top of the vertical edge and 10" tall to the figuresâ heads. See pictures for all other measurements.
