Fine antique Napoleon III or Victorian era 9" writer's stationery box, a Gothic style treasure chest in burled walnut veneers and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! A bit aged looking with some of the reticulated brass or bronze cartouche missing but it retains the interior stationery slots or fittings inside. One of two similarly shaped stationery boxes that we're listing today, this one a little less adorned but with that Gothic shaping and those beautifully burled walnut veneers. Both wonderful desk or writing table top decorative accents.
Very good condition, age & materials considered. As mentioned above, the interior fittings are missing, it would originally have had slots for stationery, etc. A few small flaws in the walnut veneers and it appears that the rear bun feet are restorations. It has a key that turns the lock but the lock pins in the lid are broken so it doesn't lock and, it appears someone tried to pry it open as you can see the chipping in the lock area.
