Fine antique Victorian to Edwardian era Black Forest style hand carved 16.5” tall “Fruits of the Hunt” type wall plaque with a unique maritime or mariner’s theme of a large fish, eel, cattails and foliage! Normally we see these figural groupings mounted on a larger oval wall panel, this one just the figures so it could be that the plaque was warped or damaged over the years, or just that the carving was the original intended result. Possibly an Asian carving but the cattails really are kind of a French calling card. Unique, generally hunt themed groupings are more common and would feature foxes, hares and other small game, hung as if fresh from the hunt. Fine detail and a truly beautiful wood finish and carved from one large, solid block of wood.
Very good condition. Likely a small chip or two here and there but, as you can see, the piece is in overall fabulous shape. See pictures for all measurements.
