Charming antique French Choisy-Le-Roi marked 2pc 7 3/4" cabinet plate set, "Souvenirs de L'Exposition de 1878" with blue & white floral & foliate borders and delightful figural center scenes with titles or inscriptions! Part of a more extensive numbered series, this pair is numbered 5 & 6 and are entitled "Au Palais du Trocadero qur elle largeur de monument et qu'elle longueur de chemin en plein soleil" and "C'est beau mais ea manque de restaurants" or, roughly translated, "At the Trocadero Palace it's a monument width and it's path length in full sun" and "It's beautiful but is lacking restaurants". Both plates have black maker marks on the back, along with die stamped marks of "H.B. & Cie, Choisy" for HB & Co., or Hautin & Boulanger & Co. (1836-1878), Choisy-Le-Roi. This is one pair, we'll be listing other small incomplete sets of similar souvenir cabinet plates this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. They're fabulous grouped and displayed, whether in a curio cabinet, hutch or even simply wall hung. Wonderful!
Very good condition. Some slight glaze crazing. Possibly a tiny edge nip or two but no larger chips, no cracks or other damage to note. Each has a 7 3/4" diameter.
