Imagine what a magnificent antique Palais Royal sewing tools nécessaire or set this one must have come from. It is the size of a stiletto, and I'm unsure if that's what it is but with a bent tip, or if it is a dainty crochet tambour or hook. It is as found, the trim and mount is 18k, no loss to the halo of tiny seed pearls which surround what is likely a garnet but I did not test the stone. Dates latest 1700s to perhaps 1830s at latest. I have only rarely seen gem-studded sewing tools, but they were all Palais Royal, often set with Persian turquoise. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, you can see the jeweled mother of pearl head with its gold ferule and old steel - is it a bent tip stiletto or a dainty crochet hook? It is the only piece I have from a jeweled sewing set at this time. Quite like a bit of jewelry, isn't it! No chips, no loss to the mother of pearl, the gems or seed pearls, and 18k gold setting.
