Elegant antique French Napoleon III era 11" jewelry or desk box with ebony 'tumbling blocks' style marquetry, ornate creamy ivory inlays, original tufted royal blue silk or satin interior and marvelous condition! One of two similar table boxes that we're adding this week, the other a marked SORMANI piece. The Sormani name has a long and lauded history as as one of the finest of the fine where French ebanistes or cabinet & box makers are concerned, ranking right up there with Tahan, Vervelle & Diehl to name a few of the most well known. This piece bears no marking, normally found on the inside brass or bronze locking plate. If you take a look at the other, that is marked by Sormani, you'll see they are so similar that one could just assume they're from the same maker. Gorgeous both!
Very good condition. Just as you see it with no missing or damaged marquetry inlays, no missing cream inlay that I can see and the interior is in great shape with just a tiny bit of darkening or soil visible. Working lock & key, too! The interior is 9 5/8" wide, 6.5" front to back with 3" height clearance. See pictures for all measurements.
