A century earlier, red coral was believed to be a protective amulet, particularly for young girls. These pieces are a bit later, and by mid-1800s became very popular as jewelry for all, more a souvenir for Grand Tour and Victorian era travelers, most of these came from Italy, Naples area and are entirely hand made. I feel sure the matrix on this would test as low karat gold. I'll test later and add, if so. As noted, that's a brooch, but I have a charming matching red coral necklace I've clasped it over and worn with it so will offer them together as shown here. NOTE the little fun surprise is a silver clasp but the small gems do test on Presidium gem tester III as diamonds. You'll find measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent for age and type. Very pretty, it might be that a petal/leaf is missing, but if so, it's not intrusively so. Wears very pretty, and displays beautifully. Again, both necklace with diamond settings on clasp and the carved roses brooch are together in this offering. I have not tested the matrix.
