Jewelry makers, alert! This superb 19th century Italian micro mosaic piece, which was once a brooch (see backside) and a souvenir of someone's Grand Tour, Italy, could be made up into a bracelet, pendant, brooch, or to decorate the top of a jewelry box. Or, just enjoyed as it is, a little work of mosaicist's work. The dove and floral center is remarkably beautiful, and the outer work encircling it has a feel of the old Etruscan works. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, no missing tiny colored glass tessera at all on this one. Set into deep brass well, held very solidly in place. From back side you can see remains of a hinge, telling us it was once a brooch. The current state gives any jewelry maker freedom to turn it into a pendant, or bracelet clasp or ornament. I've held onto this pretty little treasure for decades. Time to let the baubles go.
