Slightly larger than most of these in my collection, this vest nécessaire if 4 1/8" long, you can see it's the largest in the group photos at the end of photos. The silver case or etui is in exceptionally fine condition, and complete with 4 original tools: large pocket knife with 2 sharp blades and a shell handle, scissors, tweezer/ear wax spoon, and a bodkin that appears to have gold and is unusually ornate. It's missing a round handled tool, possibly a pencil, and a wafer to write upon. Most of these aren't complete, and it's actually more usual to find an etui without anything inside, so the fact that it has most of its original tools is a real plus. Very good condition for age and type. The outer case is beautiful, fully clad with silver on perhaps copper base. The deep repousee surface hasn't lost its silver anywhere, and has no bends nor dents. Hinge and clasp working and holding tight. Actually, as noted above missing 2 fittings (pencil, writing wafer) the interior is also very good, with sharp double blade on the larger-than-usual pocket knife, and only tiny hairlines if one looks very closely on the shell-clad body, those at the place where the pins pierce the shell. NOTE: photographed against colorful needlework because it helps keep the silver from 'blowing out' and allows easier lighting on photos of small objects like this one, and they are not included.
