Just in from France, this one is gorgeous and without damage or loss, and is a 'fronton' or top ornamental carving previously mounted at top of a mirror, furnishing, cabinet of some sort. The carving is heavy and solid old growth wood, oat, I believe (dark stain, see wood grain on back). There is a mounting board still on back, but which can be easily removed. The mounting bar angles so wherever it was mounted, it leaned forward for the upward viewer's pleasure. Fabulous figural carving, the full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered. This carving is free of chips or hairlines, cracks, having been a largely untouched high decorative carving mounted atop something. A massive clock? A tall mirror frame? Cabinet or bookcase? No way to know. Awaits your decision on how you will display this fine work of carver's sculpture. Not Black Forest, but we'll show it in that category because it's carved wood. French origin.
