Lots of photos to show this magnificent c. 1500-1600s Flemish verdure tapestry panel, a horizontal rectangular wall hanging (or would be magnificent made up into a bench top or bolster for bed, or pillows). The panel has been nicely preserved and has a complimenting 19th century woven border trim. As shown, it is 53.5" x 29". Taking the border trim away, you have a panel 50.5" x 23+" to work with. A section salvaged from a huge tapestry, it has a bird or crested crane, waterfall and flowers in the greenery. Very charming! I've shown it atop the bench at foot of one of our queen size beds and also across the back of a full sized sofa so you can really see the size of this large panel. From my personal "stash", collected over a lifetime, it's time to begin to offer these to you. None finer!
Very good to excellent condition, this ancient Flemish panel is rich in natural dyed coloration, compared to backside, you see there really is not much fading at all, meaning it was never hung where sunlight could damage it. Supple, there is no damage to the panel, no holes, no fragile or brittle warp. Visible are some professional restorations, very well done. You could enjoy this one made up into pillow - 1 long one or even 2 large European sized pillow panels, really. The outer border is also loomed wool, a superb match, and can be left, easily removed and re-used. No odor but the slight natural scent of wool. Fabulous old thing! Purchased years ago in Paris.
