Huge antique French Empire Revival style 15" writer's stand or double inkwell with Canova marked bronze bust of Napoleon Bonaparte, urn shaped inkwells with swans and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! The bust after works by Antonio Canova, an early 1800s French sculptor, and the rear of the figure marked as such. Overly heavy, the piece weighs a hair over 20 lbs (9 kg) with the massive and thick dark green marble platform. A gilded bronze base frame with cabriole style lion's paw feet and the inkwells themselves each in green marble and supported by three Empire Revival style swan figures. A massive, very impressive work.
Very good condition. The most notable flaw is a crack in the green marble base in the front left corner, shown and noted in the images. The inkwells and Napoleon bust are a bit loose but no real flaws other than a chip to the marble on the back side of the Napoleon bust. There is a glass ink pot in the left well but it's missing in the right side. See pictures for all measurements.
