Large, solid, heavy, this is a late 1800s hand carved stand which at one time would have held an oval crystal engraved centerpiece bowl. I've given the measurements including the carved recess into which a base of an oval bowl would have rested. Begs to have an oval large candle, in my opinion, though certainly one could create a bouquet of dried flowers in a mount covered by sphagnum moss, and enjoy it as a large centerpiece. Additionally, it is a large and heavy stand which would convert easily and beautifully to a lamp, as well. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it's shocking to see how pristine the carving is on this one. There are no notable imperfections and it displays so beautifully. No chips nor cracks to feathers or fauna. That base is 10 3/4" x 9" oval, very sturdy. You can see in our detail photos there are mounting holes on the sides of the top which would have had carved branch fitted to support a bowl insert. One could certainly have a glass-blower create a replacement, though the old original would be Bohemian wheel engraved glass. Tiny chip on the leafy upper rim, not much at all. Larger than you might picture it. Superb patina to that beautifully hand carved wood.
