Charming 5 3/4" tall hand carved Black Forest frame for photos popular in 1870s, the "Carte de Visite" photos. Helps us date the frame, which is beautifully carved and ready for a photo of your choice. Easel back is intact and fine. The oak leaves and acorns carved onto the branch-like sides are just fabulous! Always the most popular - acorns. The aperture is for a 2" x 4" photo, and all measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout on this one. A few tiny rubs or nips to leaf edges or tips but no larger chips and there are no breaks. The glass is a later replacement. The easel is original but I would recommend extending it .5" or so, it displays at about a 50 degree angle right now and would be better, in my opinion, at a more upright stance. One of three nearly identical frames that we currently have, in case you're looking for a grouping. Each hand carved and so slightly different, all unique and lovely. See pictures for all measurements.
