Fabulous antique French 3.5" diameter table snuff box with hand painted portrait miniature of a young beauty in lace bonnet, exceptional detail with vivid coloring and immense visual appeal! Here's a wonderful old shell snuff box, French in origin, and sporting a fine hand painted portrait miniature of a beauty up top. The box itself is solid shell, not just shell-lined, and is in quite fine shape. One small age or drying crack in the lid panel around the 5 o'clock position. The old cover glass is undamaged and the portrait is also wonderfully preserved though with a bit of what looks like slight moisture marking around the edges in places. A nice large table snuff with a wonderfully vivid and large oval portrait, it's a wonderful addition to your collection of either snuff boxes or portrait miniatures.
Very good condition, age & materials considered. No warping to the 2 halves, which fit nicely together. Thick and rather heavy pieces of shell, both top and bottom, and a wonderful piece. As noted, some signs of moisture effects around the outer edge of the painting. See pictures for all measurements.
