Fabulous antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Italian micro mosaic - micromosaic picture frame with very unique heart shape, raised or 3-D floral decoration and wonderful condition! Another great old Italian micro mosaic piece that I was sure we'd lost but no! Colorful floral inlay against the more recessed blue or turquoise mosaic mat and in the shape of a heart... Valentine's Day isn't too far off, I guess but who needs to wait? Likely dating to around 1910-1920 and as lvoely as can be, don't miss it!
Grand Tour souvenir treasures of Italy. Tiny pieces of colored glass, called tesserae, are worked piece by piece into the cement material spread into the frame's bronze inner recess and over a great deal of time, a bouquet and elegant images take form. The uniqueness of the art a legacy that goes back to Byzantine and Roman times. This one gorgeous, the sea blue coloring with twisted wire inner & outer bands is so attractive and we've recently added a few other mosaic picture frames that follow a similar theme & coloring scheme. Beautiful!
Very good condition. It looks like there may be a few glass tiles or "tesserae" that have been reset but this one is in overall fabulous shape. The glass and thin brass oval back are replacements but all tabs and wire easel stand are intact. See pictures for all measurements.
