Full elegant set of 12 antique Minton hand decorated and raised gold porcelain plates - Belle Epoch (c.1883-1923 at latest. The company operated in this form 1871-1923. A bit of history: In 1871, A. G. Burley & Co. (established 1838) became Burley & Tyrrell, importers of glassware and china; the retail business was sold to a nephew in 1883, calling itself Burley & Co. (advertised below in 1902). The companies existed side by side until 1907, when they were rejoined; ceramic bases with makers’ marks from Burley & Tyrrell and from Burley & Co. were found at the Charnley-Persky House (See below). The company was sod to Albert Pick & Co. in 1923. This set is comprised of 12, a full set, and in very good to excellent form. Measurement: 10 1/8" diameters.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it's rare to find a full set of antique plates from this era, and to find them barely used, showing no cracks or chips is truly rare. A fine heavy gold rim and raised gold hand enameled ornamentation of the broad cobalt border is a most popular style. I find no utensil marks, and there are no hairlines or chips, no evidence of any restoration, and very little (if any) rub or loss to the heavy gold borders. You'll love using this set, or in cabinet display.
