Dignified and important gentleman in the era of French kings Louis XIV to XV when the long powdered wigs and gold embroidered top coats over ruffled cravat were the height of fashion for men, this incredible and important portrait miniature is a tiny oil painting on copper plaque, incredible detail in that 1/2" face (chin to hairline). Beautifully preserved under original cover glass and within original cover.1740-70s composition frame with a leaf top ornament and hanging loop. RARE!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a remarkable museum piece, you will note a tiny loss of oil paint at very outer rim which will hide from view within the frame. I did take him out to clean the inside of the cover glass. I did not even touch the painting's surface but perhaps next owner might wish to very gently clean it. It is oil paint on copper plaque, so not quite as fragile as typical portrait miniatures on wafer, but do be careful.
