Elegant and rare antique tested 12k to 14k gold Damascene inlay or overlay & faux tortoise shell hair comb with ornate scrolling vines or tendrils & foliate decoration! Very intricate inlay, we tested it twice and it registered 12k once and 14k gold the second time. If you look closely, it appears to have almost a two-tone look to the gold with some darker and other overlays lighter and that might be the reason for the different results. Either way, it's as beautiful as can be! Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another—typically, gold or silver into a darkly oxidized steel background—to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. Truly remarkable, both the process and end result as you can see here. A work of art! Jewelry for the hair and in pristine condition, don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition. I see no flaws to note whatsoever, just gorgeous front and back. See pictures for all measurements.
